I'm still trying to wrap my head around all of this
I totally appreciate your knowledge and willingness to help people like me. I'm in a situation where my work offers a 401k with a small match of 1%, a Roth IRA, a 457, and I can migrate what currently is available to me for a Roth IRA or 401k to a schwab account for additional accounts to invest in.
I was investing over the last year about 13% of my Gross income to a mix of the 401k, Roth IRA, and 456, but wasn't putting much of anything into savings. I have drastically backed of investing for the short term to build our savings back up to a comfortable level. As I have seen the money that I was investing come into my bank account instead, I am very torn on investing as I was before, or dumping all of this extra money into the house. I could potentially pay off our house in 3 1/2 years if I did this. I would then have this money plus my house payment to apply to my investments.
Wonder what you would recommend.
Invest and pay minimum on the house?
Invest and pay some extra principal on the house?
Pay off the house ASAP and then all in on investing?
Something else entirely.
Sorry, I know this is a little bit different than your post of DIK, but you obviously know your stuff and I'd like to know your opinion.
Thanks!
