I wonder how much the demographics of our recruiting pool has moved away from
the demographics of elite basketball & football players.

The number of African-Americans in the NBA and NFL keeps going up, while the LDS population has stayed predominantly white. If it weren't for having so many Polynesians be LDS we'd be in a world of hurt for football.

In addition, it seems that BYU alums are coming more and more from hipster/elitist/wealthy families and less from tough blue-collar/farmer families. This likely hurts the number of kids who are willing to fight tooth and nail to win and have a shot at the NFL. In short, we're softer than we used to be.
