To say we "learn nothing" and "no matter what happens" suggests you're stubbornly determined to think the worst of this team and are fortifying yourself in advance to not see improvement.

Most fans--even those you dismiss as Pollyannas--readily admit that the coaches individually and collectively are in over their heads this year. Many of those fans, however, hope they're not irredeemably lost (although a few fans hope they are). Those that hold out some level of hope look at ECU as a test case: what can our offense do against the statistically worst defense in the country. Those fans hope to gain some additional insight from this game. They hope the team can experience some success and build on it. They hope the team can gain some momentum for the home stretch. But if the Cougar offense fails against ECU, they also will draw painful conclusions from the results on the field and have more conviction for the necessary consequences going forward.
