You make some valid & good points, and you're probably right about the reasons
...however most of Mika's & Davis' problems started with their off-ball defense, and fewer fouls get called there until the interior pass is caught. They could have played much better defense without racking up too many more fouls.
Having said that, I still think you're probably right that foul management contributed to their defensive approach.

Understood. People felt that way about Davis also, but length matters on D and it looks more like they will play small
