kid. Sports lose out to other priorities all of the time for a lot of those same kids. For some families, scouting might lose out to a higher priority for another kid in the family (maybe even - GASP - a daughter who doesn't have church-sponsored scouting activities).
You note further down in the thread that "Scout Camp is a big deal," but that's a pretty big assumption on your part. It's not a big deal for everyone, and that should be OK.
That said, if you make a commitment to help out on something like that, you should do so only if you're reasonably sure you can fulfill the commitment.
