I was just at a single-day (well, 5 hours) cub camp a little over a week ago. I wasn't there for a calling, but was asked to go because I have a Suburban and an 8-year-old.
A lot of people know Camp Jeremiah Johnson in Hobble Creek Canyon. That's where we went. I think they do a great job, but I have no idea what the cost is per boy. I really like your idea of doing your own, though, because I think the boys didn't get a whole lot of time at any one thing. Archery, for example, was about 15 minutes of shooting time.
Despite the hassle and work to prepare that you went through, I'd volunteer to help do one like that in the future.
