Hicks and Meeks would occasionally put up an 18 footer (they shot 5 between them in the FF), but no. They didn't have a big on the perimeter. What big from the Zags was throwing up 3s? Or from Oregon? Not Bell, and Brooks isn't a true big. Same with South Carolina.
Having a big that can set a screen on the perimeter isn't the same as having a guy that can box out and shoot the 3 (as you said you wanted). In college you get either or; veeery rarely do you get a kid who can both shoot the three and play inside on offense effectively.
Give me bigs like UNC's who pound the paint and the glass any day over a guy like Dirk who plays 18 feet from the basket most of the game. Guys who will turn in to Rudy Goberts. Much easier in college to build around and win with bigs who pound the glass and can reliably score inside by adding complimentary perimeter players than to have a big who hits the three but isn't a presence inside.
