You kind of glossed over money till the end. Few is still at Gonzaga
fore more than a Few reasons. What do they pay him. Most schools take a risk to some degree when they hire a new head coach. Here is one big difference.

Utes grab hot up and comer Urban Meyer who had been a head coach, but at Bowling Green or something like that - hot - on the rise - BAM. He continues his hot trajectory. BAM. Bidding war starts. BAM. Florida. BAM. Ohio State. Why? Money. Why else? Big Stage. Luckily, Utah has since become a bigger stage. Not big enough to pay and retain the Urban Dude, but big enough to keep Whittungham who likes living in Utah.

Texas grabs a guy who wins an NC. Then fires him when he cannot keep things at that level. Big buyout. They hire the Louisville guy on the rise. Bam. Fire him. Big buyout. Now, I think they may have hired the Houston guy or someone else else. BAM. We will see how it works out. Big money. BYU will not spend like that.

Poor Houston. Stepping stone like Utah was and still might be if Kyle did not like living here.

Now, complicate those realities with BYU pay scale, requirement to be a member of the Church and have a Temple Recommend, tithing, move to Provo. Not happening except when a coach really wants to be here and stay here. I hope Kalani works out and wants to stay, because, if he does start cranking out special seasons - someone is going to offer him $3-5M.

Enjoy what we have. The dynamics will not be changing any time soon. LaVell Edwards spoiled you. He grew up in Orem. He played at USU. He coached high school in SLC. He came to BYU and stated because it was home. Luckily he was very good.
