Rebuttal
You: "I can't imagine why we wouldn't have been focusing and desperately seeking any potential JC DB of any quality beyond a Junior High skill level -- considering what we had to put up with this past season at the position."

Me: You have to admit this paragraph is a bit melodramatic.

You: "Either:

A. There just wasn't much to pick from

B. Those that we did desperately try to court -- rebuffed us, AKA Tryon and McCoy

C. Bronco is actually doing what he said he'd do -- and is only recruiting the moral cream of the crop -- and just didn't even consider DB's that were at risk of conflicting with the HC."

Me: All three seem to be part of the answer except that Coach Mendenhall didn't consider that some otherwise desirable recruits might be at risk of having HC problems. He's not a moron.

You: "With all due respect to Taco Flavored Pringles -- I can't help but feel that we got totally rejected by even average DB recruits that appear to have elected schools where they will warm benches instead of starting at BYU."

Me: Can't you at least wait to see him play before you bag on him? From a quick trip over to the Cal board it looks like Cal snagged a last minute mid-year recruit away from Nebraska, in part, because the recruit read about Nebraska fans bagging on him on one of their message boards. We ought to consider our posts in light of the fact that players and recruits DO read this board.

You: "Is my discouragement unfounded?"

Quite possibly. First of all, we haven't seen what might happen with JC recruits who could commit to us in February. Second, we haven't seen who might show up on the commit list out of high school in February. Third, you may not be considering the ability of players already at BYU who redshirted this year (the coaches are said to be high on at least one CB who has good "measurables" as the pro scouts say). Fourth, you may underestimate what a year of experience might do for some of our returning players.

Take a deep breath and relax.
