Our daughter recently had a baby and we have our four year old grandson with us for a few days. Our youngest son from BYU is home for the week. He served in the Philippines and loves speaking Tagalog. Tonight, our son suggested that we have Filipino fast food tonight. So, my wife took him and our grandson to a local Filipino fast food place. As they entered the restaurant, our son was back in his mission element and began speaking Tagalog to a woman in line. Our little grandson was fascinated. He was standing looking upward in amazement, his head bobbing back and forth like he was at center court watching a tennis match. In the midst of the conversation, our grandson interrupted with the following question to his uncle: "Why are you saying those weird words?" Later, after getting back into the car, our grandson was not done with his inquiry about what occurred in the Filipino restaurant, asking our son: "Were you speaking Spanish?" Our son responded by speaking to our grandson in Tagalog. Our grandson then responded (as though he knew what our son was saying): "Hola."
