Which never really got off the ground because the Big 3 bailed from The MWC before BSU ever played a game.

With those 4, MWC was probably in. Big East may or may not have maintained it's status. That had BCS conferences panicked that the bottom MWC teams would get dragged into BCS status and there would be more competition for National Championships.

The 5 most powerful conferences decided it would be better to pick TCU, Utah, and Louisville for promotions and then try to pick at each other until there were only 4 conferences and 64 teams to share the pie. The reactive Big 12 moved too slowly. If they had grabbed Louisville before The ACC beat them to it and then picked off a couple more ACC teams before GOR like The Big 10 did, The ACC would have been further picked by The Big 10, Big 12, and SEC and died.

That is why I laugh at all of these wait and see moves by The Big 12 and The PAC 12. The ACC just kicked their buts again by announcing their network and extending their GOR (about 20 years out now).

If the Big 12 does not want to get picked apart, they better get agressive right now in a way that is not dilutive.

Adding BYU should be their first move with GOR extension. That would put them in the same position The PAC 12 was in after adding Colorado. They may need to promote 1 G5 team that is dilutive, like PAC did when it added Utah. Bite the bitter pill and do it. No other P5 can start right away. Get to 12 for 2017. They miss out on a further money grab by only starting 2 to play in 2017, but think long term.

Then sign up 4 PAC teams right now but give them time to exit PAC with minimal exit costs. But sign them now. Big 12 could solidify it's future at the expense of PAC 12 who has allowed itself to become the only conference vulnerable to this kind of move.

The PAC 12 could make the first move by attacking the Big 12 the same way and making the first move.

They could add BYU for 2017 and not add anyone that is dilutive. They could add any P5 they want but add none if they do not want to. Then extend GOR at least to 20 years out. At the same time, sign 3 Big 12 teams right now and give them a few years to exit gracefully before starting.
