It is not difficult to see once you take off the goggles. BYU thrives on disciplined and smart players who work hard and play in a system that makes their physical limitations and over achieves as a result.

We get way too excited when we on rare occasion win a head-to-head battle with USC, Stanford, etc. We get our 1 or 2 players with four stars each year while they get a dozen or two. We almost never get a 5 star player. They get a couple almost every year.

When we beat them out for a coveted recruit, that becomes our best recruit in the class and they will still have several better. More than half disappoint. Half of 1 is basically zero left. Half of 10 is 5.

We get the occasional African American non-LDS player. Apo on one extreme. JW on the other. JW may become our best RB ever if healthy next year. Elite programs almost always have 2 or 3 backs as good or better on the roster. Same for DB and WR.

That is reality. Year in and year out, we recruit a recruiting class ranked at the median by national services and send most on missions. After all is said and done, this does not help our top 5% in their NFL chances. They are already a half step slow and then they become old and maybe soft.

Enjoy the team you have. Elite players with elite speed and athleticism desired by the NFL are much more likely to go to the U. Disciplined, smart, hard working over-achievers are more likely to come to BYU.
