I am a self proclaimed expert though...
Make sure you have plex media server in your home. And get one of the following as your streaming device...
HTPC - Building your own little HTPC can be a lot of fun. I spent about $300 on mine and it is small and powerful (you could easily build one for less than $200). I can stream 4k content, and it instantly delivers anything I stream from plex with zero loading time. (literally zero loading time no matter the quality) The other reason I love a HTPC is because Plex Home theater is the fastest UI and fastest loading of all of the plex apps. It also looks the best visually IMO and has many customizable features to give it a theme that you want. It will directplay ANYTHING which is not true of ANY other device. What this means is with certain video types you will have to watch them in poor quality or with a loading bar every 5 mins if that file doesn't directplay. Roku's will directplay almost anything though, but the few that they don't (usually edited movies) the HTPC plays them seamlessly.
Brand new Roku 3 $85 It has every app and streams things faster than anything else on the market as far as small streaming devices go. Has a head phone jack on the remote which is great as well.

Brand New Roku 2 $68
They just released a new version of the Roku 2 and 3 and they have better menus and have faster streaming capabilities. The new Roku 2 is almost as good as the 3 but doesn't have the headphone jack.

Nvidia Shield console $199

(comes out in may) The NVidia console runs android tv as it's operating system so it will have almost every app including plex. It also has the ability to play top of the line games that are ps4 type quality through a streaming service (think netflix but for games). The shield can also stream 4k content if you have a 4k tv.
Plex is a necessity. I have over 1000 movies/tv shows on my plex in HD. It is free and the most amazing thing.

Also, I use a logitech harmony smart hub. It is around $100 for the remote, and hub. This is a great universal remote to control all of your devices, tv, and receiver. You can also use your smart phone to control everything if you have the smart hub. The smart hub is awesome because the remote connects to it through wi-fi which means no matter what device you are trying to adjust with the remote you don't have to worry about pointing it directly at anything. I can also use my remote and my phone to use on my HTPC as well.
