He talked about how one of the primary attractions to BYU
is that they do things "the right way." He likes the combination of a top-level football program with strong academics/honor code (he coached previously at the Citadel). Said he has always followed BYU and liked the way they do things.

He read online that Jay Omer was retiring, and he reached out to Coach Poppinga (knew him from Utah State days) to inquire about the job. The offensive coordinator at his previous job had also been a grad assistant at BYU and helped him get things going with Bronco.
