One thing stood out to me yesterday that I haven't paid much attention to before... The appearance of preparation for a team.
BYU fields an offense, a defense and special teams of course. Each appears to be equipped with relatively basic schemes and play designs. When compared to their college football peers, BYU is the opposite of "creative".
I was so impressed watching teams line up in very unique situations and completely change formations in a way you knew that play was specifically practiced and designed for that type of scenario. I saw teams run two minute offenses in a way that it looks like it's routine. They did not look lost, confused, or ill prepared.
When I watch BYU I see a team that appears less practiced, less coached and less prepared for all that can happen in a competitive game of college football.
BYU won't ever be able to recruit the best athletes, won't ever have the best coaches, the best facilities etc... But expecting a group of mature players to look prepared and to appear that they've been in that situation before should be a basic expectation.
This team is just simply not a well coached football team. I just don't see how anyone can argue they are compared to other programs.
