I read a post that said the students are not part of the problem, but in my observation they absolutely are part of the problem. Not the entire problem but part of it. The reason I say this is because for one there are many students that don't buy the sports pass. I would like to see the trend on the sale of sports passes, but I would bet that it is declining. And the reason I say that is because BYU's student population is increasingly becoming more focused on academics and less focused on sports. (I have no data to back that up, but it's just my own personal observation and opinion based on my kids' experience). The other issue I see with my kids' friends (not my diehard Cougar fan kids who happen to be BYU students) is that fewer and fewer of them are using their sports passes for one reason or another. Some of them don't go because they have to work. Some of them don't go because they have too much homework, etc.
I don't know what BYU is doing to reach out to UVU students, but I would hope that they are offering discounted student tickets to them as well. Just a thought.
