Honestly, I have never felt any negative connotation to the word
Redskin. "Injun" yes, but "Redskin" no.

Maybe it is because, as Spiff pointed out above, I came to know of the word through football, and the only other use I have ever heard of it (with regard to Native Americans) is in the Disney movie Peter Pan--a light hearted song in a childrens movie--how does one connote negativity from that? Or maybe it is becuase I have heard some Haitians that I met on my mission say they had "red" skin because their color tone was similar to that of the Native Americans. In fact some Haitians like to say Jesus had "red" skin because that would be a nice compromise between the two extremes of "white" and "black" (interesting that they wouldn't choose "brown" if they were looking for a middle ground, at least in my mind that is more intuitive).
