It's Amercan society's focus on individualism

As a society, we tend to favor individuals over groups. I don't agree with this thinking, but I am also not part of the mainstream audience that listens to Nicki Minaj and Bruno Mars. England had the Beatles, and we had Elvis. The UK had U2, and we had Michael Jackson and Madonna.
