Staff are hitting practices hard about beating a press. Can we expect a late-season, significant improvement? I think some of it is mental with Demin and Hall and that they are capable of it, but they need to be more aggressive and quick.
This VCU team looks a lot like Duquesne. And this year’s BYU team doesn’t look drastically different than last year’s team. We have some key pieces that are different:
-Jaxon was a dependable scorer that has largely been replaced by Richie
-Demin and his passing (TOs and lack of aggressiveness noted)
-Keita—huge improvement over Khalifa for blocks, rebounding, and ally oops (but not assists)
-Baker’s scoring
-Trey and Mag’s defense
-Mag’s veteran 3-pt shooting in big moments
-have we replaced Spencer Johnson’s veteran play, scoring, and rebounding? Not with one player.
-Fouss is largely the same, both good and bad
-we’re still very dependent on the 3 point shot, like last year
Overall, I like our chances. But if we get behind by 10+ or have our inside presence limited, VCU can give us fits like we’ve had against teams we’ve lost to this year.
