That's true. I do think in some instances employees have left
good (or bad) paying jobs because of a horrible boss or manager. For example, if someone is making a lateral move then more often than not it's probably because of their boss. I think that's a fair assumption.

I know of some instances where people desperately wanted to but weren't in a financial position to do so.

Then I know people who might have a great manager but leave for better opportunities.

I think both can be true. Still, I think it's an overused term.
