Utah is still known as the "Mormon" state. Which means two things.
One - having someone connected to that culture helps with in-state recruiting
Two - lots of coaches aren't interested in moving to ...(ugggh) Utah (insert puke emoji)
Is that second reason dumb? In my opinion, absolutely a dumb thought. But you look at the issues the Jazz have, from historical (Rony Seikaly refusing to come to Utah to Derek Harper saying he didn't want to go to live in Utah), to recent (multiple top picks in the last draft saying they didn't want to have to go to live in Utah -->

I'm currently in New Mexico and have a tough time convincing potential hires to come here because New Mexico has a negative stigma. Although most like it more once they've actually been here. And the same is unfortunately true of Utah. It has a bit of a stigma (undeserved in my opinion) and that stigma is generally removed for LDS people or people who have lived here before. So those are the people who will be most likely to take jobs here.
