If you have situations like this year in the B1G and XII where teams who don't play each other have identical records then is one really more deserving than the other just because they won on some technicality? And if you guarantee both participants of the CCG access to the playoff then what's the point? Pride, I guess, but it reduces the significance of the game even more. Better to expand the playoff and get rid of title games.

24 team playoff with guaranteed spots for 10 conference champs and 14 at-large would be best. Give the top 8 seeds a first round bye and have the rest of the 16 play first round games. Then you have pretty clear quarterfinals --> finals.
