Again.....reading is fundamental.
I will address the comprehension thing in a second and first answer your nitpicking question.
If you look at things like Massey, or "total offense" we tend to not fare as well. But I think if you want your FEI (which is admittedly created by Brian Fremeau as he was looking to make himself feel better about Notre Dame losing), you are better off using something like the F+ ratings which is a combination of SP+ and FEI (Bill Connelly and Brian Fremeau combined to create the F+ metric).
If you go by F+, we are #37 offense this year, #84 in 2023, #33 in 2022, and #14 in 2021. But that is all a bit less impressive if you then compare/incorporate what most people consider for strength of schedule was not even top 60 in 2021, or top 50 in 2022.
******But again, my criticism has never been that Arod sucks, or that he is not a decent OC. He is definitely not as good as the pro FEI crowd says he is. But he definitely does not suck. I explain that multiple times. THE issue with him is he is a horrible play caller whenever there is high pressure or "game on the line" situations. He is the college version of Kyle Shanahan.
In those crunch time moments, you can almost always bank on a bonehead call that will put our guys in a difficult opportunity to succeed. We will never be elite with him as OC. We will be good, and have the occasional 10 or 11 win season every 10 years or so. But he definitely does not suck. That has always been my claim:
