they can collect. They love the breed of dog and produce puppies that conform to the breed standard. That standard is important to them.
Both my dogs came from parents who had health clearances.
Both are sporting breeds and so both parents had proven themselves to be good working dogs as well.
Thought and consideration goes into which dogs are chosen for their breeding stock. It’s not just, “hey I have a female dog. Anyone know of a male dog to breed with.”
I use to own labradors but got away from them partly because of this very thing. They have been so overbred without consideration to breed standards. Their popularity and irresponsible backyard breeding has diluted the breed.
Saying a lab is a purebred AKC registered dog means nothing anymore. That dog could have a blocky head with a barrel chest or look the complete opposite like more greyhound than anything.
The OP doesn’t like owning his dog and admittedly isn’t a dog person. That’s the last person that should be breeding his dog because he won’t do the work to make sure it’s a responsible breeding.
