National champion. Think LSU with Joe or Georgia in 2022 when both went undefeated and had magical seasons. No one remembers how many other SEC teams were great that year. They just remember the SEC created juggernauts those years and further strengthened the idea that the SEC is in a league of it own. Again, not because there were other good teams at the same time, but because they were completely untouchable by themselves, capturing not just the national championship but the ever elusive undefeated run as well.

What’s best for BYU is also best for the B12. They are not mutually exclusive. Again, the only way 2 teams get in is if BYU has 1 loss, and I’m not going to be convinced that that is ever better than the magical undefeated season that pays dividends for years across broadcasts, recruitment and any other metric.
