I wasn't aware that the legal minimum wage required of employers is lower if their employees are "tipped" employees. I knew about waiters and waitresses, but didn't know it was also true at over the counter places. I heard this from a Crumbl Franchise owner. By designating their employees as tipped, Crumbl pays them less hourly.

I wouldn't have thought Crumbl employees are like restaurant servers, so I wouldn't tip them, but if they are paid less hourly, I feel for them.

I think the solution is getting rid of the minimum wage exception for tipped employees, and make restaurants pay their employees.

Get rid of tipping.
