It's almost always "The gospel according to Professor So-and-so"; ludicrous in the first place, but even more so when you consider that these religion professors are drawn from a very small pool of individuals who got degrees from the same handful of institutions, with little fresh thinking and even less academic freedom.
And if it's not that, it's some professor from another department who is phoning it in while on rotation.
I attended a couple of institute courses and, to their credit, the institute teachers made things interesting. I have no idea why it can't be that way when you're at BYU actually getting a grade that matters.
