Attached at the bottom are my pre-season predictions (7-0). Now that almost half the season is gone, here are my updated honest-to-goodness predictions:
@ UCF - W - we'll come into the game ranked #11 (AP) and riding high. UCF is the best 3-4 team in the country and has a chance for an upset, but this team is special as it plays strong in all 3 phases. 34-21
@ Utah - W - after the bye we'll be ranked #10 (CFP rankings). I originally picked Utah to win 34-31 but am changing my mind. I really really want to pick 42-10 for BYU but think it's going to be a dogfight vs the 4-4 Utes so I'm going 34-31 and Connor Pay is the MVP.
vs Kansas - W - we'll be ranked #8 in the CFP rankings and 9-0, and the hype will finally be real. But this is a much harder test vs Kansas than anyone thinks as they've finally found a groove with Grimes. 38-34 and more importantly, 10-0.
@ASU - W - we'll be up to #6 in the CFP and still undefeated as we roll into Tempe. Since this is likely Dallin Leavitt's brother Sam Leavitt's first game back they'll look pretty good and will have a hostile crowd, but to no avail. BYU wins 42-28 and 11-0.
vs Houston - BYU remains 6 in the CFP rankings and finally wins in a blowout over the other Cougars - 42-17.
Dr Pepper Big12 Championship - first of all, 2 "are you kidding me's" We're playing in the Big12 championship in our 2nd year! And, we're freaking 12-0! To me this game is all about who we play. If we play Iowa St we win, if we play Kansas St I think we lose. I think it's Iowa St since they get KSU at home, and we win 38-35 (same score as we both had last week)! 13-0 (a record we haven't had since 1984!)
Fiesta Bowl - I was hoping Miami would lose and we'd be the 3 seed but I think it's the 4 (instead of Boise St). vs Ohio St - W - we do what the Utes couldn't do and BEAT Ohio St! 28-24 to move to 14-0 and the Cotton Bowl!
Cotton Bowl vs Oregon - hey, if Boise St can almost beat Oregon at Autzen, we can win on a neutral field where we have flashbacks of 1996. 42-41
CFP National Championship vs Georgia - this is our year baby! Georgia is good, but we're better. Roderick exposes their weaknesses on defense and Jay Hill gets a jump on them early as we pull away in the first half only to have them make it close in the 2nd. 41-31
National Champions 40 years later!!!!!!!!!
This year we:
Went undefeated in Big12 play
Went to Arlington and won (who's going?)
Went back to the Fiesta and Cotton Bowls
Beat 2 Big10 teams and the top SEC team and helped change the Big12 narrative
Became the new Big Dog of the Big 12. Not yet a Blue Blood, but getting closer!!!
