Most of these ten teams who had the #1 HS player were really solid teams, and yet only a few made it to the Elite Eight, and only one made it to the final four or better. We should definitely not pin hopes on deep advances in the tournament in any given year. It is one of those things that is a combination of many factors including luck, where only sustained success over many years ensures deep tournament runs. So much of March Madness is luck because in any one game, an inferior team can get hot and beat a much better team. Guess that is why the NBA does not do one-loss-and-done tournaments. Even without the luck factor, once you get to the Sweet Sixteen, almost every team is a very good team, and unless your team is head and shoulders above the other teams, every game becomes almost a coin flip.
