…for years. Wouldn’t be surprised to hear that it was a lot of things all coming together at once. Kind of like on the A-Team when Col Hannibal Smith says, “I love it when a plan comes together.”
BYU had made some nice progress in Pope’s last year (first year in the Big12) and I don’t think the administration or boosters wanted to see us go backwards. Credit to them for using that motivation to really put their best foot forward and take the program to the next level. Credit to KY for being the right man (with the vision) at the right time. Credit to boosters for being willing to invest in that success.
While local media and fans on social media and message boards were lining up their favorite candidates like Burgess and Madsen, our administration went straight for KY. Credit to our athletic and academic administration for aiming high and not going with the easy hire. They knew what they wanted and wasted no time in getting him. This was a multi-faceted approach and KY gave a lot of credit to Pres Reese and to VP Vorkink for convincing him to take the job.
Last, credit his wife for giving him the biggest nudge. 😃
