The problem is this part of the quote "You want every bit of legal and above-board advantage that you can get.”
It's not just the legal and above-board advantages that he uses. He also uses illegal and below-board advantages too. Specifically, utes were notorious for calling out snap counts until refs started penalizing defensive teams more stringently this year. Just one example.
Strolling off the field with defensive substitutions may be technically legal, but I wouldn't call them "above-board".
