Utah had a #1 overall pick and they suck. Dybantsa could be like Kevin Durant, but the actual Kevin Durant went to Texas and they’re nothing special. Steph Curry has had as much influence on basketball as anyone and Davidson is pretty much irrelevant. Gonzaga signed #1 recruit, Chet Holmgren, and it didn’t help them get Cooper Flagg or Dybantsa or a championship.

I think it would be amazing to get AJ and it would do so much for BYU. However, I don’t think it would alter BYU’s entire athletic department for decades to come. Personally, I think winning a championship would do more for BYU than having a #1 pick that may or may not care about promoting BYU. For that reason, I’d rather have 5 of Demin and Catchings than 1 Dybantsa for $9 million.
