It may also be that endurance is a characteristic that varies by player.
Some players may be more affected by a longer season, others by more minutes in a short two-hour game window. Generally speaking, it may be postulated that one of the factors that makes a 4*/5* guy better than a 2*/3* guy is endurance. Does he have full energy at the end of a grueling game, and a grueling season, in the playoffs, etc? Is he still hitting clutch shots in crunch time, or is he gassed and hitting the front of the rim?

If it's the case that you have great players on your squad but they sometimes run out of energy (and I'm not saying that is or isn't the case with BYU), then it stands to reason you'd want to help them out by having supporting good players to eat up some of those mid-game minutes and leave your best guys fresh at the end.

I don't really know anything, but the evidence of our post-season failures for a long time suggests we can do better. We've historically had mostly 2*/3* recruits. Is endurance a limiting factor? I would vote to at least entertain or try this concept of having top quality depth give our starters a breather as much as possible. That's good for reducing injuries as well. With more 4* guys in the future we should be able to try it.
