The officer has to follow the law as well while executing the citation
It's not always, "if you did the crime, then you do the time".

I'm not a lawyer but a member of a speed demon family. My dad got out of a ticket once because the office didn't date the citation. The civil procedure code requires it for example.

My brother requested the calibration documentation on the radar gun the office used and was able to get out of ticket when the calibration was out of date.

He's also gotten out of a few by just showing up to the court date and the office doesn't show up. They show up about 50/50 and if the officer doesn't show then your case is dismissed.

However, if this is your first citation in awhile, I would recommend going to traffic school and pay the fine. Traffic school will keep it off your record for insurance purposes and while it costs more it allows you to move with your life.
