Getting 3 yards on 1st down, 3 yards on 2nd down, and converting 3rd and manageable should be the goal. Waiting to convert on 4th and 1 is an easy way to get stuffed and have a turnover on downs which is the same as a turnover without punting.
4th down is too risky. I understand the analytics say to go for it on 4th but it almost feels like we are trying to get to 4th down and treating it as equal to 3rd. It's much more dangerous and should be treated as such.
