of being intercepted the moment it left Jake's hand, and it would not have mattered who was back there.
That was not a designed 50-50 route, and where it was thrown it was not even close to being a 50-50 ball.
No, not even the best WRs "instantly" adjust. They can't. Their brain is expecting the ball to go where it's supposed to, and when it leaves Jake's hand it does look like it's going where it's supposed to. It's not until that ball gets further up in the air that anybody running a route that far down field can start to see that it's not going where it's supposed to, but at that point Kody has done an exceptional job of creating space between him and his defender as it's not supposed to be a 50-50 ball. He has run his route to perfection and it is an easy TD if that ball had been anywhere close to where it was supposed to go.
But that was the problem. He ran his route to perfection, created the space to where Jake had a country mile with which to work, but now he has to put on the brakes cause it's woefully underthrown.
Chase might have been able to be a better defender and knock the ball away, but that's the best he could have done. It was thrown to the defender. That's not a 50-50 ball.
