I'd be surprised if his stats through his first 5-6 games were remarkably better than JR's. Of course, I believe Beck did get benched early, so there is that.

John Beck. First start was 99.41. Averaged 104 in 2003. Was one of our most skilled QBs ever at the end of his career.
