Interesting, makes me wonder what the most wins a defeated major conference opponent has had
12 win USAFA and Boise St
And then 11 wins for USU (x2) and TCU
Not taking anything away from those teams, but by virtue of playing weaker conferences, it was obviously easier for them to win more games
SMU isn't a better team than those (by any stretch) but, as mentioned, is very unlikely to end up with 11+ wins this year after drastically increasing the difficulty of their schedule
I know we beat 9 win Kansas St in the 96 Cotton Bowl, but I'd bet there's a few ten-win major conference opponents we've beaten. 1990 Miami for sure. Any others
