A lot of these people who don't come from money have a hard time turning people down that they have known their whole life when they come asking after they strike it rich. I've heard of athletes essentially paying a salary for 20+ friends and relatives.
This is honestly why I find the critiques of the Church's investments unconvincing. Before you can help others you need to ensure your own financial wellbeing. You can make a much bigger lasting impact by growing your investment that if you gave it all away at once. That is the lesson the athletes need to learn.
