Honestly, I don't think their standing within the conference is even that meaningful in and of itself. We could theoretically end up very high in the conference standings without having beaten many good teams. Assuming they don't win the auto bid via the tourney, they need something to bolster their resume for the committee and that means beating other teams getting in the tournament. We've played those teams, and we've only beaten a Wisconsin, who aren't even sure to end up having a great season. Teams can game the RPI to end up in a good position, but they have to fulfill some other criteria and it's become clear that beating top opposition is hugely important. We can get in but that means beating at least two of TCU/Tech/OSU and doing very well otherwise.

In any case, every game has big stakes for BYU at this point. A bid has become the aspiration and not the standard for this year's team. And that's okay, it's a building year. But things have to start looking sharper.
