And yet people and their property survive those things
While in the west, people lose their houses to fire and earthquake, to say nothing of the higher suicide rates.
Say what you will about Appleton, WI, but unlike Seattle and Portland, it's not going to fall into the sea, unlike CA and UT, it's not on fire and is not overdue for a massive earthquake, unlike AZ, it has clean water to supply its citizens indefinitely, etc.
