I was just looking at off-the-wall conference possibilities today and came up with a thought (that absolutely won't happen). Especially with all the excitement about basketball right now
Imagine the ACC and XII basically shuffled membership into two distinct conferences
Conference A
West: ASU, Colorado, Stanford, Utah
Central: Kansas St, Notre Dame, Oklahoma St, TCU
South: Clemson, Florida St, Georgia Tech, Miami
Atlantic: UNC, Pitt, Virginia Tech, West Virginia
Conference B:
West: Arizona, BYU, San Diego St, Texas Tech
South: Baylor, Houston, Kansas, SMU
North: Iowa St, Syracuse, UConn, Virginia
East: Duke, NC State, Louisville, UCF
With Boston College, Cal, Wake Forest, Cincy missing out.
Which of those conferences would you rather be in?
Conference A is probably the better football conference and would almost certainly get more money (has the bigger names with Notre Dame, Clemson, Florida St, UNC and most of the best Big 12 football teams)...but would still be stuck behind the B1G and the SEC in the football pecking order and would also risk losing members to those conferences. Less stability
Conference B would be an absolutely insane basketball conference and would dominate March Madness and the entire basketball season, taking the best from the Big 12 and ACC + Arizona from the PAC. Any discussion of basketball would basically start and end with this conference. And the football would still be at least solid with a lot of good teams.
So which of those (completely hypothetical and not happening) conferences would you rather be in ?
