It started off good showing the mayhem that would take place in a city of millions when the aliens show up. Then it started to go downhill when it decided to focus on the relationship between the two new characters. Seriously though. No one dies after they are introduced to each other. Lots of jump scares but no deaths.
The movie would have been 100 times better if they focused on Djimon Hounso (the survivor from the first movie who is on the island and is killed when he decides to stupidly check on his family instead of staying in the garage with Krasinski) and how he and his family were able to make it to the boats without being killed and how he started to send out the code message/song "Beyond the Sea" to tell everyone to seek out an island for shelter. That would've been a great movie.
Instead you get two people that you really don't care about. Seriously I didn't care if any of them died. The only character I cared about surviving was the cat. It is pretty bad when you care more about a cat than the main human characters. They did a major disservice only showing Djimon Hounso at the very beginning and the very end. His story arc was such a better choice. And after seeing him you keep waiting for him to show up and maybe team up with the other characters to escape but you'd be wrong.
