People can debate the allocation of the widow’s mite, tithing dollars vs. investment dollars, malls vs. athletic programs, etc. This is none of those things. It’s BYU alums and donors willingly paying market rate to help our athletic programs compete.
We wouldn’t bend the rules when others were doing it with abandon. We are within the rules and above board now.
While they won’t admit it, there’s many people, LDS and otherwise, who like their BYU sports teams mediocre and beneath the squads they actually like and follow. They’ll gripe at whatever they can when BYU athletics rears its head into the realm of excellence. Those folks have had it their way long enough. Time to take a seat.
