board can remember 1984. Many of us were in elementary school. It was the 40th anniversary of D-Day. It was so far removed from any of us even back then. It's crazy to me that another 40 years has passed that quickly. D-Day really wasn't that long ago from 1984. It was still fresh on the minds of half the population of the country who lived through it in some way, just like 1984 still seems so memorable to many of us and not that far away. 40 years go by in a flash. 40 years before D-Day was 1904, then 1864, (The Civil War), then 1824, then 1784.
I guess my take away here is that years are much shorter than we realize. There really isn't that much time that has gone by since 1776.
