Let's just say you're right, that BYU doesn't have sufficient NIL to sustain large payments for elite prospects. What's the alternative? To just fade into mediocrity now instead. If you're right (and that's a big if), wouldn't the more reasonable choice be to make some big splashes and see if you can change the reality of the situation?
Maybe that would be a longshot, but it's better than just giving up. And obviously if BYU actually DOES have the NIL to do it (which I'd guess is more likely), this is also a good move and the start of something more There's no possible situation where this is a bad choice
