I will say I was extremely frugal in my 20's and 30's, with some luck in the stock market and not having kids til my 30's I am not longer as frugal.
But I do remember I hated the amount of debt I got into during medical school, so I worked during school and I shared an apt for $350 a month while most of my classmates were spending over $1000 a month for rent. That extra $50K debt for housing may seem like a drop in the bucket, that additional interest they're paying instead of paying down principal.
