He knew my name, my address, and had my cell number. He identified himself as a cop and said that I missed a court appointment for jury duty and that a warrant had been issued for my arrest. And that before I could have a zoom meeting with the judge I needed to post a surety bond (which he was able to set up through a licensed affiliated company). And that if I met with the judge as required I'd get the money back.
I told him there was no way I was paying over the phone but that I'd be happy to call his superior to discuss. After much pushback he eventually gave me the phone number of the SL County sheriff's office and told me to speak with Captain Jason Johnson. So I called the number (he did indeed give me the number to the SL sheriff's office) and they assured me this is a scam they know about.
The guy who called me was competent, educated, and convincing. His script was robust and very well thought out. I know he's going to get people on this one...
Please be careful. Never give out info to someone who calls you.
