My dad was in the Pacific theater. Their packs may have been heavier, because they did not have the resupply capability of the D-Day invasion. When you landed on an island, you might have to go a day or so before being resupplied.
They were practicing amphibious landings in the Philipines. The pack was so heavy it rubbed his shoulders raw, and when he hit the salt water, it hurt. But everyone was the same. Everyone endured together.
