BYUFootballisBack Intervention Needed

On my mission, walked past a house with an open gate, a huge vicious looking dog

started running towards us (no chain). Dog hits an invisible wall where the opening in the gate was. It was like the dog ran into the closed gate, but it was wide open. Dog got this super surprised look on its face and kept trying to run at us but it was just running in place, unable to move past through opening, then we took off.

Companion and I both were like, what the heck just happened...?
